John Wesley captured the essence of Jesus’ Great Commission when he
said, “The world is my parish”. In order to reach the world, Wesley saw the need to make nominal Christians into mature disciples who would reach out to others—living in mission. Wesley did this by advocating a relational evangelism that became the originator of small group ministry throughout the Christian church. By developing small groups that would raise up leaders, provide accountability, and create a sense of belonging, the Methodist movement spread around the world.
Wesley advocated for the continuous multiplication of such groups that many more people might come in contact with Christ. The Methodist Movement was made up of people who were taught to teach others that the world is our parish—the whole world! As a result we enjoy the fruits of their labor in our thriving small group ministry today at Frazer. Are you involved in sharing the Gospel through relational evangelism (small groups)? Do you think of the world as your parish?
