When God called Moses to liberate the Hebrew people, Moses came up with
lots of excuses. One such excuse was that he could not speak eloquently enough. Moses continued to tell God that he was a mumbling, bumbling, stumbling kinda guy when it came to talking to others—that he was incapable of completing sentences, speaking too slowly.
I can see Moses now, exhausting himself with excuse after excuse in an attempt to persuade God that he had chosen the wrong guy for this mission.
A friend once told me when answering my own call into ministry that, “God does not need your ability, God wants your availability.” For Moses, God already had a mission in mind and journey to take. The same is true for us, but so many times we give God excuses as to why we couldn’t possibly be called to do this or that.
Have you ever tried to give God an excuse? Persuade God in a different direction? Tell God that He is wrong? Think about it… Now who looks like the mumbling, bumbling, stumbling Moses… we do! We all have excuses not to serve God. What is yours?
