When it comes to selecting political leaders, what criteria do you use? They must think like you? Believe like you? Belong to your party? Must they be a great communicator? Look good on television? Appear smart and well versed on the issues?
It is interesting that when Moses went looking for leaders in Israel, his criteria were: Do they fear God? Are they people of integrity? Do they hate dishonest gain? Are they moral? Are they competent?
As Christians our first requirement for selecting our leaders should be, are they Godly men and women? Do their private and public lives bear fruit that brings glory and honor to God?
Some people believe that religion and morality are not a necessary qualification for our leaders. But for a nation to truly be ‘under God’ we must have Godly men and women leading us.
Don’t be swayed by slick marketing campaigns, media bias, or great communication skills. Seek out those whose chief desire is to honor, please and glorify the Lord in all they do. Pray for God to raise up Godly leaders.
