Have you ever seen a burning bush? Perhaps. Okay, so have you ever seen a burning bush that was not consumed by the fire? Didn’t think so. Today’s passage reminds us that God is in the business of getting our attention.
At first glance, Moses’ moment with God seems almost too easy. Of course if we saw a burning bush that was not consumed by the fire and God’s voice was heard, we too would stop and listen. God would have our attention! But there is more to this old story. Moses stopped and took notice of the burning bush. There was an act of participation on his part. God places burning bushes all around us, everyday, waiting for us to simply stop and take notice. Moses stopped. Will you? Look for the burning bushes that God places in your life today. When you see one, stop and take notice. And don’t forget to take off your shoes for you will be standing on holy ground.
