The writer of Ecclesiastes gives the unvarnished truth that ‘people who live only for money come to the end their life as naked and empty handed as the day they were born’. In the end all of the money and stuff that we spend a lifetime chasing and accumulating isn’t worth much.
That truth really struck me after my mama and daddy died. Walking through their house after they died, looking at their accumulation of a lifetime I realized it had little value . I inherited the stuff, but I would give it all back in heart beat just to be able to pick up the phone and talk to my mama or watch a ball game with my daddy.
You see, money and stuff has such limited value. It can’t protect you from death, buy you a family, purchase good friends, buy you inner peace, or get you into heaven. The things that matter most in this life have nothing to do with money. It’s all about loving and being loved. It’s all about relationships. It’s not about money. It’s about loving God and loving people.
