There are so many lessons to be learned in the Bible. God’s Word challengesus to be more like Christ every day. But did you know that for all the lessons the Bible teaches, in only one did God say, “Test me in this?”
In Malachi in the context of tithing (giving at least 10% of your income), God challenges us: “Test me.” It sounds like children on a playground shouting, “I double dog dare you!” And we all know that a “double dog dare” means business! God is serious about this challenge.
I imagine a Wild West gun-slingin’ stare-down, waiting for someone to make the first move. God is staring at us with a cosmic intensity that pierces the soul, awaiting our decision: will we test Him or walk away? As we contemplate our answer, God ratchets up His level of intensity by declaring He will “throw open the floodgates of heaven” upon us if we will accept this challenge! Why does God challenge us? He is confronting us with a “life-giving test.” God wants us to discover abundant life because He knows without a challenge this big, the world will whisk us away, trapping us in a lesser life. “Test me,” God says.
