1 Timothy 5:8
A breadwinner is one who provides money or the source of someone else’s survival. Typically it is the person who “brings home the bacon.” Another way to look at the breadwinner is the one who sets the tone for the lifestyle of others. The more money the breadwinner makes the higher the standard of living is for those whom he/she supports.
This passage, like many others in the Bible, shows us that the breadwinner also sets the tone for the spiritual lifestyle of the family. The breadwinner either demonstrates the importance of following Jesus or not. The breadwinner either provides a rich, fertile spiritual inheritance that leads them to the Bread of Life, or leaves those that depend on him/her in a dry, parched land void of the things of God.
