Welcome to Frazer’s weekly feature called the Breaking Good News! Here you’ll find how your tithing and service is touching and changing lives everyday through our ministries and programs.
Unchained
The close to 1200 people who signed up for Financial Peace University through Unchained, are more than halfway through the 9 week course. This is a week for celebrating victories! Many participants have cutup credit cards, some right in front of their small groups, others have stopped frivolous spending and some have even found second jobs to help pay off debt! Along with learning to handle our finances better, new friendships are being made as the generations pour into one another during small group time. We look forward to how this time of FPU and the upcoming sermon series on living unchained, will change our church family! To God be the glory!
Unchained-Children’s Ministry
The children’s ministry is already living and giving like no one else as they study Financial Peace University. Children’s Director Cami Culpepper, in teaching about giving to others, asked the children to decorate and stuff shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child. The children had a ball showing their early Christmas spirit. The Frazer family will soon hear more on taking part in Operation Christmas Child!
Unchained—Frazer Flash Mob
Frazer Flash Mob strikes again! Frazer Flash Mobs began as a way for our church family to engage in random acts of kindness throughout the months of Unchained. Flash Mob leader, Sara Beaird organized a meal prep assembly event focused on inner-generational serving. The Mom2Mom Ministry and the Living Today Sunday School class came together to make this happen. The Living Today Class generously funded the event, allowing dozens of meals to be made. These “Flash Mob” events will happen over the next few months as our church family works toward being “unchained” and totally available to live and give like no one else!
Missions
Frazer members Frank and Jan Stevens along with their children Gabe and Josie, received a warm welcome home recently during a visit on a Sunday morning. The Stevens made the choice last summer to become full time missionaries in Haiti. Frank and Jan quit their jobs, Gabe had a garage sale to help the family make the transition and in the summer of 2014 they moved to Haiti to help model what it means to be a family. There is an orphan crisis in Haiti, with many Haitians not understanding how to love and care for children. Now the Stevens not only model family living, they’re also helping with a ministry called Haiti Made-teaching skills to young Haitians so they can find work and support their families. For more information on the Stevens and their mission work, please go to stevensinhaiti.com.
CRAVE-Youth Ministry
Young girls from throughout the River Region gathered at the Davis Theater in Montgomery recently for “It’s a Girl Thing”. Frazer’s CRAVE ministry and the Family Sunshine Center teamed up to offer this special night of worship and fun. Girls in grades 6th -12th were invited to be encouraged, inspired and informed about healthy relationships.
Frazer youth joined other young people from throughout the area for the Fellowship of Christian Athlete’s Fields of Faith at Cramton Bowl. This special time of fellowship and worship brought in students from numerous schools and featured testimony from area youth. Many of them shared what a difference God’s word is making in their lives—how important it is to stay in His word for strength, comfort and direction. Another young man, who suffered a traumatic brain injury in a car wreck, said God has made a message out of his mess and now he lives to tell others they can face and overcome the impossible!
Military Outreach
Did you know when military families come to Maxwell for Squadron Officer School, Frazer offers an opportunity for the spouses to fellowship and grow in Christ? On a recent October morning, 10 families took part in a 5 Love Languages Bible Study while their children enjoyed fellowship in the nursery.
Here are some comments from participants:
- I really enjoyed finding out the results of the (5 Love Languages) test. This was my favorite class so far!
- I know I need to feed my husband’s love languages more than I do. Especially since having kids, his needs seem to come in last after the boys get the best of me.
- Thanks a lot for the book [5 Love Languages: Military Edition] and for organizing this.
- Love the life lessons and honesty.
- Great group!
Up next at Frazer for military families, Character-centered parenting starting October 13th.
New Connect Cards
Frazer’s new Connect Cards are already bringing encouraging results. The new cards are placed in the back of chairs in Wesley and pews in the Sanctuary. They allow you to sign up for an area of service in the church anytime you’re inspired to do so! These cards also provide a place for members to turn in prayer requests and for first time visitors to learn more about opportunities to serve and grow at Frazer. Here are some of the exciting connections being made:
4 – Committing lives to Christ
10 – Recommitting their lives to Christ
18 – Desire to connect to a small group
32 – Desire to connect to serving in a ministry
This is just some of the Breaking Good News happening in our Frazer Family! Stay tuned for more details of how God is moving through Frazer UMC.
