Welcome to Frazer’s weekly feature called the Breaking Good News! Here you’ll find how your tithing and service is touching and changing lives everyday through our ministries and programs.
Missions
Frazer is sending a team of 15 people to Cuba November 8th. Cuba is a strategic location for our Missions Department as we’ve built a great partnership with Pastor Javier and the Methodist Church in Guanabacoa over the years. Our team will be a part of a variety of ministries including marriage and family workshops, preaching, women and men small group studies. We will also donate numerous supplies and provide financial aid for the construction of their church facilities. Frazer UMC has been instrumental in the building and expansion of the church facility in Cuba and will continue to help in the near future.
We’re very excited to be a part of what God is doing in Cuba and look forward to our upcoming trip. Please keep our team in your prayers!
Missionary to Moldova, Kathryn Jones, stopped by to speak with Frazer’s 5th grade girls in Paul and Dian Sims’ class. The lesson came at a perfect time as the girls are learning how Abraham left everything to follow God’s lead. Kathryn and her husband Brian left everything they knew here in America in the summer of 2014 to be full-time missionaries in Moldova. They are working through Stella’s Voice, ministering to orphans and sharing the word and love of Christ.
Unchained
The 9 weeks of Financial Peace University came to an exciting close this week, as the children shared how they managed to multiply the $1 given to them at the start of this course. Children’s Ministry Director Cami Culpepper gave each child a dollar and challenged them to multiply it and did they ever answer the challenge! So far the children have turned in $1362.65 from the original $100. Some bought yarn and knitted crosses then sold them for a $1, others made bracelets to sell, another young girl bought two stamps with her $1 and sent letters to grandparents asking for a donation. Now the children will chose a family or ministry to bless with their hard earned money!
Also this week, we caught PW Quinn hopping out Philippians 4:12 studied in Unchained, “I have learned to be content with whatever I have!”, a great hopscotch lesson for young and old!
Volunteer teacher Carter Papke (aka Surfer Dude Jamaican Joe) got into character to teach the children to be content with God’s blessings in their lives. Carter held the kids’ attention every Wednesday night with his amazing storytelling.
As the close to 1000 adults taking Financial Peace University finish out the 9 week course, creative celebrations are taking place! Take a look at the cookie cake served or “cut up” in Chip and Michelle Nix’s small FPU group. A great reminder to follow Dave’s lead and cut up your credit cards! Kim Hendrix’s small FPU group celebrated with a delicious Red Velvet Cheese Cake made by member Kim Bowling-King who started a catering business three years ago called Decadent Endings—it lived up to that name! Be sure to be in worship Sunday, November 15th as we celebrate our church family becoming “unchained” for God!
Celebrating the Frazer Family
The Boyd family, long-time members of Frazer, are celebrating another win among their beautifully talented daughters. Mattie Boyd recently won the title of Miss UAB 2015 and will now compete in the Miss Alabama pageant next June. Mattie is the third Boyd sister to be in Miss Alabama and this is the 5th consecutive year a Boyd sister has been in the Miss Alabama pageant. Mattie’s platform is the Children’s Miracle Network, which raises money for Children’s Hospital of Alabama. Mattie’s mom is Cindy Body, dad and stepmom are Johnny and Nora Boyd. Congratulations to the Boyd family!
This is just some of the Breaking Good News happening in our Frazer Family! Stay tuned for more details of how God is moving through Frazer UMC.
