Welcome to Frazer’s weekly feature called the Breaking Good News! Here you’ll find how your tithing and service is touching and changing lives everyday through our ministries and programs.
Outreach Hospitality Training
“I feel like I’m at Disney World!”—That’s how one Frazer member described the joyful hospitable spirit at Wednesday night supper at Frazer UMC. A team of volunteers carried trays, grabbed drinks and escorted guests to their seats all in preparation for a night of Hospitality Training with Mark Cathy of Chick-fil-A. Mark Cathy is the grandson of the late Truett Cathy who created the popular chick-fil-a sandwich and founded the restaurant chain in the mid ’60’s. As a third generation Cathy, Mark Cathy shared the “Core Four” of Chick-fil-A:
*Eye contact
*The Smile
*Speak Enthusiastically
*Stay Connected
Cathy spoke to a crowd of about 1900 people in Wesley Hall from all over the state, church staff and volunteers along with many business professionals all wanting to learn something about the secret of Chick-fil-A’s success. Cathy shared six business themes behind the secret of Chick-fil-A in the acrostic of SERVE.
See and shape the future.
Engage and develop others.
Re-invent continuously.
Value and results and relationships.
Embody the values.
The theme of Cathy’s message was Second Mile Service based on Matthew 5:41-42: “And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two. Give to him who asks you, and from him who want to borrow from you do not turn away.”
In the spirit of second mile service everyone attending enjoyed a free chick-fil-a sandwich! Enjoy these outstanding photos from one of Frazer’s extremely talented volunteer photographers, Lori Mercer.
Media Ministries Volunteer Training
Look around this Sunday morning in church service, whether you’re in Wesley Hall or the Sanctuary—do you see those camera operators? Did you know they are all volunteers? Frazer’s Media Ministries consists of close to 100 loyal and dedicated volunteers—video and still photographers, graphics and video level operators, directors and bulletin stuffers! The team recently met for a new year training session and time of fellowship. Veteran director Carolyn Rawls shared that her prayer every Sunday is “Dear Lord guide our hands, hearts and minds.” She also added a good piece of advice, “The red light is your friend,” meaning as a camera operator if the red light on your camera is on, that means your shot is live so don’t move! There is a team in the Sanctuary and Wesley Hall for each Sunday of the month, the volunteers work hard to set the tone for worship and consider their team members, family!
CRAVE Youth Ministry
Our 6th graders are in the middle of a ten-week study of the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus’ own words teaching us the fundamental elements of the Kingdom of God. Next week, they will focus on how Jesus desires for us to relate to one another in alignment with God’s best plan for our lives.
And in case you drop by the 6th grade gathering, don’t think you’re seeing double or actually triple. Two sets of triplets are engaged in the 6th grade fellowship! They are Frazer members Mason, Meganne, and Morgan McLendon. And a set of visiting triplets, Caroline, Katherine and Anne Key-welcome!
Connect Classes—Process of Church Membership
On Sunday morning January 25th, we welcomed 9 new members into the Frazer Family. This group just completed the Connect Classes—designed to help new members get connected into the life of our church. Content Manager Ken Roach helps teach the connect classes with the goal in mind to get everyone on a level playing field. Regardless if someone grew up in the church all their life or if they are a brand new believer, Ken tells God’s story in a way that is fresh and relatable to everyone. He manages to sum up 400 years of Biblical history in 30 minutes, and people walk away knowing how they are part of the story. One of our new members who grew up in the Catholic church said, “I have never heard the story of the Bible told that well in my whole life and I have heard it a lot.”
Here are the names of our new members, please help them feel welcome!
