CRAVE—Youth Ministry
Who wants to be called a Loser? When you’re losing your life for Christ it’s the best name you could possibly hope for! DiscipleNow (DNOW) 2015 was about losing your life for Jesus. Matthew 16:25 states, “For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it.” This year at DNOW, students studied the life of Jacob. Jacob was a trickster, a schemer, always trying to make it to the top by manipulating others. This lifestyle eventually caught up with him which resulted in a wrestling match with God. Over the weekend, more than 200 students were exposed to the biblical truth about identity through Jacob’s story. Through small groups, worship sessions and times for reflection, the students gained an understanding of what it means to be a LOSER- losing your life for Christ is when you truly find it. Meaningful fellowship, lively praise and worship with Christian recording artist “The Digital Age”, team building exercises and outdoor games made this weekend both meaningful and fun!
Ash Wednesday
Frazer UMC offered an Ash Wednesday service at noon in the chapel as a time to repent of our sins and prepare for the season of Lent. Many people also stopped in the sanctuary Wednesday evening for the imposition of the ashes in a come and go time of worship. The Lucio family was among those taking part Wednesday evening. They first took time to share with their daughters the meaning of this day, before each of them received the ashes as a sign of repentance. Ash Wednesday begins Lent, a time when we stop and assess how we’re doing in our walk with God. Lent helps us identify spiritual areas in which we can grow and sinful areas that we need to avoid. We use ashes as an outward expression of our need to begin again.
Frazer member honored
Frazer member Christine Ammeter recently received the prestigious “Cross and Flame” award through the Scouting program. This award identifies its recipient as someone who has served youth and children through the United Methodist Church. It requires that the nominee be active in a recognized Christian Church and that they have given faithful service to the local church congregation by serving in leadership positions. They also must have actively and effectively promoted the religious awards program (P.R.A.Y.) and promoted the use of religious services when camping or during other youth activities outside of the traditional worship setting. Assistant Music Director Amis Sellers calls Christine an incredible volunteer who works with children and adults in the music ministry. “I’m just SO PROUD of Christine, she is an AMAZING servant heart,” said Sellers.
