Upward Basketball
Did you hear that sound last Saturday? The sound of hundreds of basketballs bouncing their way through Frazer’s Activity Center? More than 400 children from throughout the River Region hit the floor running as Upward Basketball “tipped-off” Saturday, January 10th. Parents, players, coaches and even referees agreed it was a great opening day! Fifty teams with 60 volunteer coaches will compete through the end of February, learning the fundamentals of basketball and more importantly how to compete while shining for Christ! The coaches always share a halftime devotional with the players and reward each player with a star representing Christ-like character and a good competitive spirit.
Frazer Activity Center (JEMAC)
Pickle, the sport with the funny name, is a big hit with people of all ages at Frazer UMC.
The sport is perhaps best described as a cross between badminton, tennis and ping pong. It’s played with a plastic ball and paddle on a badminton-sized court and a slightly modified tennis net. The rules of Pickle are simple and the game is easy for beginners to learn, but can develop into a quick, fast-paced, competitive game for experienced players…just ask Frazer pastor emeritus Dr. John Ed Mathison (for whom the Activity Center is named for). One of our volunteer photographers recently caught a few photos of John Ed and friends battling it out on the pickle court! The Frazer Activity Center is designed to help Frazer members and guests stay physically and spiritually fit. Stop in for a visit, we promise you won’t find yourself in a pickle. Sorry, couldn’t resist.
Connect Classes
Frazer’s New Member Connect Classes, previously called STEP, are a 4 week series of classes with a whole new curriculum designed to help our new members get connected. Connect begins the amazing story of what God is up to in the world from the beginning of creation right up until now, and how each one of us finds meaning and purpose inside His story. Our first group is currently moving through the series with plans to join the church in a few weeks! Whether you’ve grown up in the church or never read the Bible, this series will help you make sense of the big picture. Connect classes are offered every Sunday morning at 11:00 in the Cokesbury room. Contact Mary Causey for more information at mcausey@frazerumc.org
Men’s Life Bible Study
A large crowd of men answered Senior Pastor Tim Thompson’s call to get in the word and be the spiritual leader of their homes. Men’s Life launched it’s newest study led by Frazer’s senior pastor Wednesday night, reading through a book called “The Real Win” by NFL quarterback Colt McCoy and his pastor Matt Carter. This study focuses on pursuing God’s plan for authentic success. Books are available in the bookstore and you can still join in this Wednesday night study each week at 6pm in Wesley Hall. Men’s and women’s studies are back in full swing. Be sure to pick up the latest Connections magazine to find a study or small group, you’ll be glad you did.
Spirit
Frazer’s Senior ministry kicked off the new year with an evening packed with entertainment. On the second Thursday of the month, Spirit brings seniors from all over the area to a night of fellowship, food and you can always count on fun! Their first gathering of the new year featured the Kempters along with Barbara Fairchild and Roy Morris. Spirit invites everyone to join them for their next night of fellowship February 12th.
This is just some of the Breaking Good News happening in our Frazer Family! Stay tuned for more details of how God is moving through Frazer UMC.
