CRAVE-Youth Ministry
It’s hard to get more than 50 middle and high school girls to “be still”, but CRAVE’s Girls Night accomplished that seemingly impossible task! With the theme “Be Still and Know God”, the girls gathered for a night of interactive stations designed around the Lord’s prayer. So many times we recite the Lord’s Prayer, possibly without even hearing it and more concerning without hearing the voice of God. On this night, the girls had time to go verse by verse and really listen for our Savior. Shelley Johnson led them in a night of worship that many girls said they wished would never end!
Military Missions
Frazer’s Nursery workers say they’ve been blessed to take care of 19 children of 11 military families over the past 6 weeks. The families from the Squadron Officer School at Maxwell took part in a Love Language class at Frazer UMC. Mike and Lisa Conn say they’re thankful for Frazer’s support in making it possible to give character-centered parenting training and marriage strengthening tips to these families who are often moving every few years from one community to another. Several of these families, new to the area, attended worship at Frazer as well.
Followership
Once again our First Followers volunteers stepped up to the challenge of a 5000-piece mail out consisting of stuffing, labeling, sealing and sorting. Thanks to the 70 plus volunteers in September, we finished in ONE day! Our volunteers are a blessing to our Followership Ministry. Now we join our church family in praying over where God would have each of us serve in the coming year. Please remember to sign up for ONE hour of prayer at the table in the atrium; attend the ONE rally of Vision Oct. 19th and our ONE Sunday of Celebration service at 9:30am October 26th!
Mary Ellen’s Hearth
Our ministry is celebrating two years of assisting families and we’re beginning to see encouraging results! We have nine families and 17 children currently and together these moms have paid off more than $18,000 in bills since they have lived at Mary Ellen’s Hearth. When the moms come here, we sit down with them and get a list of all the bills they owe. We help them decide what to pay on their bills each month so they will be debt free when they leave us. This year at least two more women will graduate and begin living independently.
Mary Ellen’s Hearth offers hope, help and healing to homeless women and children throughout the River Region. For more information go to maryellenshearth.org.
Common Ground Montgomery
Mentor Director Kevin King shares this update:
“The other night I was taking home a few young men who are in high school. This group began talking about where they would be if not for Common Ground and Urban SEED Xchange. One of the young men placed his hand on my shoulder and wanted me to know that the staff’s labor wasn’t in vain, because he, along with a host of other young men and women, were living proof of our faithfulness and dedication to God. At this point I was on the verge of kicking him out of the van to avoid getting emotional! Speaking with these young men further confirmed that prayerfully matching mentors with our students is extremely important and can be pivotal in the spiritual, social and character development of all of our youth. Please be in prayer for God’s leading and direction as this initiative develops.”
