Our hearts were touched today during our block party at the housing authority. We had so many kids of all ages. We did arts and crafts, played games, watched puppets, listened to the YWA sing and DANCED! Everyone had a great time. As always, our YWA kids really shined and touched the lives of those around them. Parents, you should be proud!
Tamyia-At first when we got to the Housing Authority, the children’s faces seemed kind of sad. When we took them to arts and crafts, their faces seemed to light up. One asked if we were coming again. When they saw the puppets, they started dancing. When we left, some of the kids wanted to go with us, but we could not take them. It made me sad, but a little happy because we helped bring joy to their lives.
Jonathan-Yesterday at the Union Station, a group of teen-agers asked if they could take a picture with us. Rather than ignoring us since they wanted to hang out with us for a little while. It reminded me of why we are here-to show joy and God’s love.
Jeremiah-I got to meet Ann Curry from the Today Show, and she signed my shirt. She was really nice. It was pretty cool.
Kaylin-One of the girls that I was with asked if we were coming back. When I said no, she said, “I really hope that y’all will! I am going to wish upon the stars.” I really felt like I made an impact on that little girl’s life.
Mary Beth-Bentley and I had a quiet boy. The more I got to know him, the more he started smiling.
Heather-An 18 yr old girl came up to me during face painting and asked if we had extra “I love NY” shirts. I told her I didn’t think we did. She said, “But I really want one of those shirts!” I told her I was sorry we didn’t have any. She then asked me if I could paint an “I love NY” like our shirts on her arm, so she could be just like us. For me it was really cool that someone her age really enjoyed watching us and wanted to be like us. Not only did we minister to the young children there, we ministered to teenagers.
Toni-Loren and I were paired with a little girl. She made a crown that she loved and glued jewels on it. I wrote “Princess Damiya” on it for her. Today was my 16th birthday, and this morning, I was feeling a little sad, but I am so glad that I was able to share it with her.
Brandon-This little one year old boy, Symire, walked up with his mom. He heard me playing the drums so he brought his little drumsticks over to me. I put him on the seat of the drum set and gave him a pair of my drumsticks. He started playing. I thought it was pretty enjoyable. He was so small and adorable. I let him keep the drumsticks since he played with them so well.
