One of our prayers before we left was for God to open our eyes! Well, HE did just that! Ours and the locals too!
An elderly man who lives across the open area from our construction site, hailed me to his work site as we arrived. He was busy laying adobe brick for his home. Neither of us spoke the other’s language but we were able to communicate some using sign language and my very, very limited Spanish. I was able to read his facial expressions and that big, wide ear to ear toothless smile and those bright brown eyes were all the words of encouragement and confirmation I needed. While I couldn’t verbally convey the Gospel of our Lord; I knew in my heart my new neighbor somehow understood what we were doing! God not only opened my eyes . . . HE opened the eyes of Milagro! I believe someday that elderly Peruvian amigo will ask Jesus to write his name in that Book of names and when we meet in eternity we’ll be able to talk about today!
