Before we went to the housing project yesterday, I didn’t feel very well. I was exhausted, like everyone else and had a horrible headache. I also didn’t really feel like doing another block party, but I decided that I wasn’t going to be selfish and ended up with a little girl named Kamani. At first, Loren was doing all the talking and I just followed them around, but then Kamani began to open up and talk. She opened up and asked me all kinds of questions about my family. She also told me about her family and how she loved her aunties and cousins. Kamani asked about the big bus and so I asked Mr Rusty if we could go inside of it. We did and she was amazed by it. Following the bus visit, she told me that she didn’t want me to leave her. “I wish you were my sister, then I could see you all the time.” Those words touched my heart. No child has ever told me they wanted me to be immediate family with only knowing me for 2 hours. Kamani’s family also appreciated the whole shabang. Her aunts talked to Loren and I about how well we could sing and how she loved that we took time to hang out with the kids. As we were leaving, Kamani asked me if I could ask my mom if she would let me come back. It broke my heart because I knew that I would never see her again. I learned to take the opportunity given to show someone love and that when love is shown, much blessing is given in return.
