Missions and Community Ministries
A free eye clinic sponsored by the Medical Outreach Ministries in Montgomery provided badly needed exams to folks who might otherwise not be able to afford this crucial medical care. Volunteers turned the Frazer Library into a medical clinic on a recent Saturday and got to work. Students from the UAB Ophthalmology and Optometry Departments participated along with professionals who donate their time for this free clinic. Participants over the years have expressed how much this means to them and some of the exams have discovered conditions that could have led to damaging results if left undetected. Frazer UMC supports the Medical Outreach Ministries and is thankful to see positive results year after year.
English as a Second Language-Community Ministries
This year’s session of ESL finished strong with 90 active students. More than 150 students registered last fall, representing 23 countries. The majority of the students were from Mexico, Guatemala and Korea. Several faiths are also represented in this group including many who enter “none”. This ministry is designed to teach English while also spreading the Gospel! An end of year party marked the end of another highly successful year.
Men’s Life
Intertwining humor with real-life examples, long time Frazer member Robert Suttle delivered an inspiring message at the recent Men’s Breakfast. Robert, who’s known for his many dramatic roles in Frazer’s Christmas and Easter productions, spoke on how to approach the reading, understanding and application of God’s Word. Citing 2 Timothy 3:16, he expanded on the simplicity of the Bible, explaining that it doesn’t need ‘improvement’, and why we should always read it in context and with guidance from the Holy Spirit. Robert pointed out man tends to change things to fit his needs, however Paul and Timothy remind us in 2 Cor 4:2 that we should not distort God’s word. Those who have had the blessing of hearing Robert, call him a gifted speaker! Men’s Life meets for breakfast in the Fellowship Hall on the first Wednesday of the month.
