Colossians 3:9, Ephesians 4:15
We all know that a key to healthy family life is communication. Communication is about talking and listening. It is about deciding that you’ll be honest about who you are and what is going on in your life. The Bible offers two wise words about communication in today’s readings. First, healthy relationships are based on trust, so don’t lie to each other. Don’t be deceptive. Healthy families place a high premium on truth-telling. Second, create a culture of communication where truth can be spoken with grace and love and kindness and a culture where truth is heard without getting defensive. Healthy families move beyond pretending, sweeping stuff under the rug, and being defensive. They create a culture of communication where truth- telling and truth receiving is a priority.
