Deadly Trend
November 13, 2015
Proverbs 4::12 “There is a way that appears right to man, but in the end is the way of death.”
There was an article that was first posted to the New York Times that I found interesting. During the 15 years from 1999 to 2014, a deadly trend has appeared: the death rate among 45 to 54 year olds with a high school education or less spiked by 25%. Two Princeton economists have studied this alarming data and they attribute it to an increase in suicides and drug- and alcohol-related fatalities. I can’t help but wonder how much of this shocking trend is related to our nation’s accelerating turn away from Christianity over those same years. The Bible says, “There is a way that seems right to a man, but the ends thereof are the ways of death.” When we think we know better than God how to live our lives, we end up choosing paths of hopelessness and death. God’s way is better than your way. God’s plan for your life is far better than your plan or the world’s plan. God’s plan is about increasing our life rate not our death rate. There is hope in life found in Jesus Christ. Every day we get to make the choice of ‘my way or God’s way.’ Remember today, choose to stay focused on Jesus and follow in His way. It will always lead you to life.
