A Policeman’s Kindness
November 12, 2015
Acts 20:35 “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”
One of my daughters and her husband were driving home from church last Saturday night when they were pulled over for speeding going 50mph in a 30mph zone. These are two young people who are very conscientious, who work hard, who make good decisions with their money, who budget, who are trying to do the right thing. But they don’t have much. They are just starting out. The thought of an expensive ticket just caused both of them to be crestfallen. They had been working so hard to get ahead and both were almost in tears. The police officer told them he had to give them a ticket because they were going 20 mph over the limit. In that town that is considered reckless driving. They sat in their car unable to speak to one another. Then the policeman finally came back and gave my son-in law back his driver’s license and registration, and then he said, “Sitting in my car I heard God say to me not to give you a ticket. Be blessed.” He returned to his car and drove off. My daughter burst into tears. My son-in law was stunned. They had just received an astonishing act of generosity and mercy from that policeman. He felt something in his soul by God to do something generous for that young couple, and he acted on it. What a blessing he gave to those two young people, and I’m willing to say what a blessing came back to him. Remember, Jesus said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Every act of generosity or kindness on my part or your part grows us more into the likeness of Christ. Do something kind or generous for someone today. Find the blessing.
