Is a Footlong Sub a Foot Long?
October 31, 2015
Matthew 5:37 “But let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No.’…”
The restaurant chain Subway recently settled a class action lawsuit claiming that their footlong subs weren’t really twelve inches long. As part of the settlement, Subway agreed to have its employees measure the sandwiches to make sure they are long enough. I wonder if that is the best use of our court system. However, it does go to show a point. Jesus said, “Let your yes be yes and your no be no.” In other words keep your promises. I want to be a person of integrity and I bet you do too. People of integrity live at peace with themselves and those around them. When you have integrity you never have anything to hide and you have nothing to fear. Proverbs 10:9 says, “The one who walks with integrity walks securely.” Integrity is your behavior matching your beliefs, your walk is matching your talk, your character matching your confession. Integrity is doing the right thing even when no one is checking up on you. No one should have to check behind me or you with a ruler, not if we are living the Golden Rule to treat others the way we want to be treated. It’s a great way to live your life. Let your yes’s be yes’s and your no’s be no’s.
