Bathroom Verses
October 30, 2015
I Peter 5:6 “Humble yourselves under the mighty power of God and at the right time He will lift you up in honor.”
Virginia and I spent a few days in Highlands, NC, last week. It is a beautiful place. We were staying at a newly renovated hotel called Two Hundred Main. What caught my attention was in every bathroom there was a framed scripture displayed in a prominent place so you could not help but see it. It was on the wall opposite the toilet. That may be too much information. Apparently there was a different verse in every bathroom. The verse in our bathroom was I Peter 5:6, “Humble yourselves under the mighty power of God and at the right time He will lift you up in honor.” I think that verse simply is saying that the way up is down. Pride-too much of me generally leads to trouble. Humility- less of me and more of Jesus leads to amazing blessings. God promises us in I Peter, that when we put ourselves under God’s mighty hand, and remember that life is all about serving and loving and giving and sharing and sacrificing, like Jesus did for us, that God will lift us up in honor. Sometimes it seems that we take ourselves and plans way too seriously and don’t take God and His plan seriously enough. That ends up begin the crux of most of our problems. This verse made me think, “Where is there too much of me?” Maybe the reason we don’t have the peace of God in areas of our lives is there is way too much of us and way too little of Jesus. This is a great verse to ponder today. It is a great verse to remember that when you and I humble ourselves and place ourselves under the mighty hand of God, He promises to lift us up in honor.

I think it a good gesture towards our Lotd when express ourselves in being less and express Him as more. Lord you are more and I am less.
