Matthew 23:11 “The greatest among you will be your servant.”
It is 72 feet long, 12 feet wide and 13 feet tall. It weighs 6 tons. What is it? It’s the world’s largest potato on tour around America as publicity for the Idaho Potato Farmers Association. The massive potato could make 30,000 servings of mashed potatoes or 1.5 million French fries. That’s a big potato. It does seem like we are constantly impressed with big things, the bigger the better. It just seems like there is something inside of us human beings–we always want to try to make everything bigger. We have an innate desire for greatness. We get confused about what true greatness is. Jesus didn’t deny that desire for greatness; in fact, He encouraged greatness. He did turn upside down our expectations for what makes someone great. “Whoever wants to be greatest of all,” He said, “let him become the servant of everybody.” True greatness is not about awards and honors. It’s not about achievements or accomplishments. It’s not about what you gain for yourself. Greatness is all about the difference that you make for good in this world and in the lives of others. Greatness is found in loving and giving and sharing and serving. Greatness is all about making life better for someone else. So if you want to do something great today, go out and make someone else’s day better. In the process, your life will become better. Go be great today.
