Isaiah 49:16 “I have written your name on the palm of my hands.”
A member of our church who knows I am a sports card collector showed me an old, worn, beat up baseball. It had some faded signatures that were difficult to make out, but there was a clear signature of Babe Ruth in the sweet spot. He said he wanted to know if it was real and asked me to take it to the collector’s show and see if someone could authenticate it. I did. It turned out it was real, and it was a 1933 New York Yankees team-signed ball. It not only had the Babe Ruth signature but also Lou Gehrig and 8 other Hall of Fame-ers. To those of you who could care less about baseball or who know a little about baseball, this is a big deal and a very, very valuable ball. I got a signed letter of authenticity. It made me think of another signature. The Bible says that God has your name written on the palm of His hand. Isn’t that a cool thought? The great God of the universe knows your name. You matter to Him. You are special to Him. He could pick you out of a crowd of one hundred thousand people and call you by name. You are so loved; you are so valuable. Never forget that. Your name is written in God’s hand, and you are far more valuable than any autograph on a baseball.
