Luke 14:11 “For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he
who humbles himself will be exalted.”
In 1988 there was a dance craze moving through the nation, this craze was known as the “Ickey Shuffle.” Ickey Woods was a star running back for the Cincinnati Bengals. After every touchdown Ickey would break out into a celebration dance called the “Ickey Shuffle.” As a youth league football player this was mesmerizing tome. I would practice these dance moves in hopes to one day score a touchdown and show off my moves to the crowd. Well, one Fall Saturday night I got my chance. I took a pitch sweep around the end at Holtville’s football field in Slapout, Alabama, to the house for my very first touchdown. I then pulled off a flawless “Ickey Shuffle” and went back to the sideline with visions of high fives and all sorts of congratulations in my head. That is not what I received. My father was waiting for me, and to put it nicely, he was not a fan of my dance moves. He said alot of things to me that night about my actions, most I can’t put in here, but the most important thing that he said was, “Son, act like you been there before.” While my dad’s quote might not be found in the Bible, its origins certainly are. So when you breakthrough for that big score in life, no matter what activity or role you are in, act like you have been there before, and be sure to be humble before you are humbled. – Keith Williams, IT
