Psalm 51:10 “Create in me a clean heart, O God,
and renew a right spirit within me.”
I have been celebrating this week. Several months ago a bacterial infection in their equipment forced Blue Bell Ice Cream to shut down. But now they are back in production, and hallelujah! Blue Bell is in the freezer section again at your local grocery store. That is good news for ice cream lovers like me, but it is also good news for the hundreds of people who are able to get their jobs back. Often sin creeps in our lives and creates an infection and really messes us up. To deal with it we sometimes have to shut down, clean up, and get back on track. The Bible calls that repentance. Now repentance is not just saying you are sorry that you have sinned. Repentance is recognizing our sin, being honest about it, confessing it, and turning away from it to walk in a brand new direction. Repentance is God’s way for us to handle the destructive power of sin that can destroy our lives. A little repenting is good for the soul. There is a cleansing new life that occurs when we are honest with ourselves and God, when we confess our sin, turn from it, and seek forgiveness. It puts us on the path of peace with God, peace with ourselves, and peace with others. The clean-up is done. The ice cream trucks from Blue Bell are running again. What about you? What do you need to clean up and confess in order to get your life back on track?
