Joshua 24:15 -“As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
Not long ago I went to purchase some blue jeans. Do some of you remember a few years back when you went to purchase blue jeans it was easy. There was only one choice, just regular blue jeans. Today there are skinny jeans, straight legged jeans, relaxed fit jeans (which is a nice way of saying they are fat jeans), boot jeans, washed and distressed jeans, buttoned-up jeans, zippered jeans. There were too many choices. I finally just asked the clerk, “Can you find me a pair of blue jeans that an old man would wear?” And that narrowed it back down to one. Life has so many choices in every area from food to cars to clothes to computers to churches to toothpaste to TV channels, moral choices, and religious choices. The fact is that our lives tend to reflect the choices that we make. We are all an accumulation of choices. Sometimes we choose wisely and get terrific results. Sometimes we choose poorly and reap devastating consequences. But there is only one choice that has true eternal significance and that choice is, “Who is your God?” If you choose to give god-like status to things to people to stuff that wasn’t meant to be god , the result will be sin and death in hell. If you choose, the Lord, if you choose Jesus, you find the good and beautiful life that you were meant to have from the beginning and you find life forever in heaven. Joshua once said, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” Have you made that choice?
