The Blessings of Simplicity
June 9, 2015
“7 For the LORD your God is bringing you into a good land of flowing streams and pools of water, with fountains and springs that gush out in the valleys and hills. 8 It is a land of wheat and barley; of grapevines, fig trees, and pomegranates; of olive oil and honey. 9 It is a land where food is plentiful and nothing is lacking. It is a land where iron is as common as stone, and copper is abundant in the hills.” – Deuteronomy 8:7-9 (NLT)
Today’s scripture is a reminder that God’s abundance is available to us right now. In Deuteronomy 8:7-9, we are reminded that God is bringing His people into a good land, a land where we will lack nothing! God is our great Provider who has already made plans for us. But do we trust God? When we trust God, simplicity is a spiritual discipline that is not all that hard to adopt. We believe that God will provide. That sure takes the pressure off! Simplicity provides perspective for our daily life. Richard Foster said it this way, “Simplicity is the only thing that sufficiently reorients our lives so that possessions can be genuinely enjoyed without destroying us.” Take a deep breath right now and enjoy the simple, abundant blessing of breathing. Enjoy the “flowing streams” of blessings that God offers you today!
