“I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With Him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.” – Psalm 16:8
I love that phrase, “Keep my eyes always on the Lord.” In other words, keep the Lord before you. However you do that, whatever that means to you, do it. For it is in keeping the Lord ever before us that we find our peace and our strength and our hope. There was a mountain climber who had as his life’s ambition to scale the Matterhorn. When he had saved enough, he made the trip to the great mountain and he hired the best guide available. He started on his trip to the summit, and the guide literally picked him up and pulled him to the top of the mountain, but he finally got there. When he got to the mountaintop, the winds were fierce, but the sight was breathtaking. He started to rise from his knees so he could enjoy the beauty of the mountain that he had just climbed. Before he could stand up, the wise guide yanked him back down and screamed into his ear, “Young man, get back on your knees or the winds will blow you off the top of this mountain.” The winds of stress are always threatening to blow us off the mountain and overwhelm us. The Lord’s response to that is get down on your knees. Make quiet moments in order to be able to keep your eyes upon the Lord. You will not be shaken.
