“Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble and He delivered them from their distress.” – Psalm 107:6
All of us occasionally get distressed. It is good to know that when we are distressed that we are not hopeless, that deliverance is always a real possibility. To deliver means to bring something to somebody. The newspaper is delivered every morning, pizza is delivered, and flowers are delivered. I deliver a sermon, but there is something important to remember about deliverance. A newspaper person can only bring you a paper; he or she cannot read the paper for you. The pizza person can bring you a pizza, but he cannot make you eat it. As a preacher I can tell you about the good news of God’s saving power, but I cannot do your believing for you. The only way it does you any good is when you use it, read it, eat it, or accept it for yourself. Our God is a delivering God. God brings the good news of a Savior. God brings us beautiful gifts of love, peace, and joy. God offers us a way to be delivered from our sins and the messes we make, to be delivered from death. It is up to us to accept the deliverance that God is offering. Have you truly accepted God’s delivering power in your life?
