READ: Romans 5:5
You read a lot in the Bible about the third day. When the Hebrew slaves arrived at Mount Sinai, God said, “Consecrate the people and make them ready by the third day because on that day the Lord will come down.” When the freed slaves came to the Promised Land there was a wide river to cross, and they became discouraged, but the Lord said, “Don’t be discouraged, don’t be afraid. Three days from now you will cross the river and possess the land.” When Israel was threatened with genocide a harem girl named Esther said she would fast for three days and go to the king and ask deliverance of her people. When Jonah was swallowed by the big fish he spent three days in the fish’s belly. Whenever the third day is mentioned, it is referring to the fact that right now things may be messed up, right now things may look hopeless, right now I am afraid, right now I don’t see a way forward, but a better day is coming. There is a third day. The third day is when Pharaoh set the slaves free. The third day is the day the mountain shook and the rivers parted and God’s people claimed their Promised Land. The third day was the day a harem girl faced down a powerful king. The third day was the day Jonah was dropped off at a seaport by a giant fish. The third day is the day the stone was rolled away. The third day was the day the crucified and dead Jesus came back to life. God is a God of the third day. There is pain and suffering and injustice and death, but don’t ever forget there is a third day coming, a resurrection day, a day of new life, and a day of victory. So live with the hope of the third day.
