READ: John 15:12-13
“Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus.”
When the water valve blew out in the restroom a few weeks ago flooding the Atrium, the word got out quickly, and staff and lay people showed up with brooms and shop vacs to get the water out. Tim and I showed up with our little standard household red 2.5 gallon shop vac. Tim starts to suck up water, and then along comes someone who has a bigger and nicer shop vac. The first thing Tim says is, “I got to have one of those.” A little later someone comes in with a bigger shop vac that had 6.5 horsepower that can pick up one gallon of water per second. Tim looks at me and says, “Virginia, we got to have one of those.” What is it about boys and their toys? What is it about all of us that makes us continually climb to get the biggest and newest and the best? What is it that makes us always want to think that the only way to be successful is to be at the top of the hill? For some people life is nothing more than a ladder climbing exercise that believes that more, bigger, and better is what life is all about. The problem is when you spend your life climbing up the ladder you will go right past Jesus because He is coming down the ladder. Jesus came down from heaven to wash feet, to serve others, to give His life away so that everyone else’s life could be better. Life is not about what you have, it is about what you give away. What a different world we would have if we all followed the Jesus example. – Virginia Thompson
