Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. – Colossians 4:2
I read of an elderly lady in a church who was so kind and good that she radiated the love of God. She had always been a dedicated servant of God and His church. One day the pastor asked how she spent her days. She said, “Well, I don’t get out much anymore. I can’t drive; I can’t walk far; I can’t serve God the way I once could, but I have come up with a plan.” She said, “I take the daily paper to bed with me at night. I read the pages with the birth notices and pray for the babies that have been born. I read about marriages and I pray for couples to be happy and faithful. I read the death notices and I pray for peace in grieving families. I read the foreclosures and pray for those families to be able to get back on their feet.” That is what it means to be devoted to prayer. When you walk a new life with Christ, prayer becomes a key element in your life and your prayer changes your life and blesses others. Being devoted in prayer is similar to being a devoted fan of a particular team. You cheer for your team no matter what. Christians are devoted to praying. You may have some dry time; times when you can’t seem to stay focused and get distracted. Just keep praying. Be devoted in prayer. Prayer connects your heart with God’s. The prayers of a committed believer make a difference.
