READ: MATTHEW 14:22-31
I asked Betty Whatley if I could participate in preparing for one of her estate sales. I arrived at the beautiful home and property and began walking through rooms that didn’t seem to end. There must be 1,000 books, 100+ baskets, gorgeous iron pots and statues, rooms of furniture, a zillion Christmas Santas, and a barn and two other buildings full. How did the house hold so much STUFF? All good stuff! My naive brain had thought this would be easy. It looked as though Betty needed to move mountains to get this house in order. While Betty was happy in the kitchen, I was allowing this massive job, a job I had volunteered to do, to cripple me so that I was getting nothing done. God sometimes calls His children to do truly difficult tasks, tasks that seem overwhelming, tasks that even require us to walk through valleys of the shadow of death. God will put us through a test, take us through a period of trial, and allow an illness or some difficult challenge. But remember, just as Jesus compelled Peter to walk toward Him on the water, Jesus also gave Peter the ability to do the task. If God puts a task before you, God will equip and empower you to do it. Just keep your eyes on Jesus.
