A Small Blessing

READ: Matthew 10:42
The other morning I stopped by McDonalds on my way to work for a breakfast sandwich and a cup of coffee. There were four cars lined up at the drive-thru, and I waited my turn to order and then move up to the window to pay. When I got to the window, the lady told me that someone had already paid for my meal. I looked at the car in front of me and the lady waved, and I waved back. I’m not sure who it was or even if the person knew me. Perhaps it is someone reading this devotional today! Let me tell you, it brought a smile to my face, and I offered God thanks for someone so considerate and giving. It wasn’t really a big thing, my meal didn’t cost a lot, but it started my day with such a blessing. In this verse from the Gospel of Matthew, we read about giving a small gift, a cup of cold water. But we are reminded of the reward that awaits those who give even small things. Sometimes we feel like we have little to offer. Sometimes we wonder if our small contribution of time, money, or service really makes a difference. God reminds us that it does. The small blessing that I received revived my heart and soul and prepared me for the day ahead. I think I will find some way to share a small blessing with someone today. How about you?
