There was a man who stopped at a red light one day when another car slammed into his left rear fender. When the man walked back to the car that hit him, he found a young woman crying her heart out. She kept saying to herself, “I can’t believe I did this. My husband is going to kill me.” The man tried to reassure her that everything would be alright. When the police office asked for her insurance card, she said, “I don’t know anything about insurance.” The man whose car had been hit suggested to her that the information might be in the glove compartment where she found her insurance information and a note from her husband attached that read, “Honey, in case of an accident, remember I love you more than the car.” What beautiful, life-giving, reassuring words of love those were for that woman. Everybody needs to know they are loved. And everybody needs to hear the words, “I love you,” but more than that we need to see the words ‘I love you’ in action. It is love as an action that reassures us that love is real. God loves you. How do you know? Listen to love in action in the words of Jesus in John 3:16, “For God love so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” Today remember how loved you are.
