I often have people say to me that they don’t ever feel as if God is speaking to them. The Bible teaches that God is always trying to speak His word to us, and if we can’t hear it, it is probably because we haven’t been quiet enough or haven’t stopped long enough to really listen. How much silence do you build into your day? It’s hard to find silence in a world where TV’s are blaring, radios are on, ipods are singing, phones are ringing, people are talking, and YouTube is telling. Have you ever thought about building an intentional silence into your day? Silence is good thinking time, good praying time. The Bible says in Psalm 46:10, “Be still and know that I am God.” Stillness is silence on the outside and surrender on the inside. I read about a church in England that recorded the “sound of silence” on a CD and gave the CD to the congregation with the admonition to listen to it at least once a day. It was a half hour of listening to absolutely nothing. It is amazing what you can learn and what you hear when you are silent. It is when we build silence into our day, that we will be able to hear the voice of God and to discover His will and His plan for our life.
