Mark 2:21-22 is a reminder that nobody repairs a pair of pants with a patch from a new pair of pants. Not only would you ruin a good pair, but it would look out of place on the old pair. Jesus is teaching us today that He didn’t show up to patch up Judaism or old forms of religion, nor did He come to patch up people. He came to make all things new. Sometimes we come to church Sunday after Sunday and we deal with the same problem that we have been dealing with for years. We come to get a Band-Aid, to hold us together so we can make it through the week, but nothing ever changes. The new wine you receive on Sunday leaks out by Wednesday and you are in the same old place again. The patches and Band-Aids never last. You want things to be different, but you just don’t want to make any radical changes. Well, Jesus didn’t come just to give you Band-Aids or patch you up. He came to give you new life. He wants to make you new. You can be born again. The old life can be replaced with the new life. If you are tired and worn out, and you are ready for change, today is the time. Today simply pray, “Jesus, make me new. Lord, where I am beat up, messed up, worn out, broken down, torn-up, or patched- up, make me new today, Lord for I am ready.”
