We are reminded by God’s word, “Whatever you do in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord, Jesus Christ, giving thanks to God, the Father, through Him.” Last year, the Oxford Dictionary word of the year was, “selfie,” a self-portrait photograph that you take of yourself with a smart phone and post it on social media. The popularity of taking pictures of yourself with your smart phone has grown so much that AAA recently sent out a warning reminding people not to take selfies while driving. Accidents have been caused by people taking their eyes off the road to focus on themselves. Literally and metaphorically, if I spend time thinking about myself, I will end up full of selfishness, broken relationships, and despair. A bad case of the selfies can wreck your car, but getting wrapped up in yourself can also wreck your life. Remember, you are chosen by God and loved and challenged to live as who you are, children of God. We are not made to live and to honor and please and glorify and worship ourselves. Live in such a way that you focus on Jesus, and let your words and deeds lift His name up. Your life will be better, and the lives of those around you will be better too.
