I always loved the story a waitress in Georgia who told about a visitor from Maine who came for breakfast. As with all customers, she asked the man if he wanted grits with his eggs. When he declined, she asked, “Have you ever tried grits? You’d love them.” He said, “I don’t think so.” But she persisited, “All you’ve got to do is just plop on some butter and lots of salt and pepper. They are fabulous. Let me bring you some grits.” The man from Maine said, “All right, but bring me just one.” You know I see people responding to Jesus the same way. They want a little bit of Jesus, but not enough to change their life. If you want to grow a faith in Jesus, sooner or later you have to step out in faith and put your whole weight down on Him. How are you going to know what God can do until you give Him a chance? Hebrews 11:6 says, “It is impossible to please God without faith. And anyone who wants to come to Him must believe that God exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.” If you want to know what God can do, then today get out of the way. Quit trying to control all the outcomes. Let go of the steering wheel and trust God to drive your life. You will be amazed how God will bless and reward your steps of faith.
