Computers frustrate me. A stray finger hits a wrong key, and wham! Something goes wrong. Then different happens. I hate different. When it comes to my computer, I like for it to work. I want predictable. I want reliable. I think of my computer like my car. I want it to run smoothly each and every time. For a person with less than zero mechanical or technical brain cells, the tiniest glitch is a major problem for me. Then I call one of my children, or I call Keith, our IT wiz, at the church and it gets fixed in just a few moments. My children roll their eyes and tell me how easy it was to fix. The truth is, not being able to fix things myself makes me feel stupid and inadequate. Did you know that God didn’t design us to fix ourselves without His help? We shouldn’t feel stupid or inadequate when we can’t get over hurt, grief, job loss, or rejection by our own will power. We also shouldn’t try to fix ourselves with things. We sinners shouldn’t look for physical solutions to spiritual problems. Buying a new car, clothes, furniture, getting a new boyfriend or spouse, or even changing jobs will not fix the things that are wrong in our souls. For problems with our souls, we need God’s repair. He is the One who brings healing.
