I don’t know about you, but Virginia and I have way too much stuff. Over thirty-seven years, we have amassed trinkets, vases, pictures, just stuff. It adds absolutely no value to our lives, but we have a lot of it. Some of our stuff is on display and some of our stuff is stuffed in closets with other stuff that we have no use for. We are “stuffed to death.” We decided to have a closet exorcism. It sure felt good to get rid of a lot of that stuff. The problem is the more you have the more complicated life gets. You start with a little house, and you fill it up. You move to a bigger house, and you fill it up. And the bigger we get, the more time we end up having to spend dealing with our stuff and the less time we have to focus on what really matters, and that is people. The abundant life is a simple life. Focus your life on things that add value to your life, not on accumulating more stuff. Life is about loving and being loved. If you want more life, maybe the place to start is with less stuff. Virginia and I are discovering that the more we downsize the more our life gets upsized. That is the less stuff to focus on, the more we get to focus on the things that matter- God, family, and others. Do yourself a favor today and have a closet and stuff exorcism. It just may be the most freeing thing you do for your life.
