Have you ever noticed that stuff shows up in the light? All of our flaws get revealed, so sometimes we want to avoid the light. Jesus said it this way, “People love the darkness more than the light.” The light will reveal and expose your sins, your flaws, and your hurts, so we try to avoid the light and hide from the truth. It is like the ancient desert nomad who woke up in the middle of the night feeling hungry. He lit a candle by the bed and began eating some figs from a bowl on the nightstand. He took one bite and saw a worm in it so he threw it away. He bit into a second fig and found another worm and threw it away. Reasoning that he would not have any figs left if he kept throwing them away, he blew out his candle and in the dark he ate the rest of the figs. Some people prefer the darkness because in the light they see too much. Jesus’ Light will expose dark, private corners of your life that you prefer to keep hidden, but the Light of Jesus comes not to condemn us but to save us. Not to rub our noses in the dirt but to sweep us clean and bring healing and forgiveness. He will tell you the truth and His truth will set you free. Only the truth can bless you. Expose yourself to the light of Jesus today. Come clean. Confess. Deal with the truth. The truth will set you free and bless you.
