Steve Wingo of Lubbock, Texas, writes about his last college test, a final in a Logics class known for its difficult exams. To help them on the test the professor told them they could bring as much information as they could fit on a piece of notebook paper. Well, one student walked into the class, put a piece of notebook paper on the floor, and a PhD student in Advanced Logics stood on the paper. The Advanced Logics student stood there whispering to the student all the correct answers. The student was the only one in the class to get an “A.” Would you rather walk through all the exams of life with the little information you can cram on a piece of paper in your brain, or would you rather walk through life with the one who made you, one who knows all the answers and who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life? You can take all this world offers, but for me and my family, just give me Jesus. Virginia and I both just have one request for our funerals. We want the old spiritual, “Give Me Jesus.” We want it sung as a last word of love and witness to one another, to our children, and to our friends. “In the morning when I rise, give me Jesus. You can have all this world, all this stuff, all this knowledge, just give me Jesus. And when I come to die, give me Jesus. You can have all this world, just give me Jesus.”
