Jesus is our model for life. The more we do life like Jesus, the more contented we will become. Did you know that there is one thing that Jesus can’t do? He can’t please everyone. There are people praying to Jesus for rain today. Others are praying to Jesus for sunshine. Fifty percent of the people are going to be disappointed. If He couldn’t make everyone happy, why do we think we can? John 8:29 says, “I always do those things that are pleasing to Him.” Jesus made a decision to live His life to please and honor and glorify God. Many of us spend our days trying to please this person and that person and getting frustrated and discontented because we end up pleasing nobody. Trying to please your husband, your wife, your children, your parents, your boss, your peers, your friends, your coaches, and your teachers fragments your life. You cannot please them all. Make up your mind today to live for an audience of one, live to please and honor and glorify God. If you do that, two things will happen. The more you narrow your focus to live for an audience of one, to please and glorify God, the more you will become like Jesus. When that happens, the rest of your life and your relationships will be better. And living for an audience of one means it will simplify your life. Just live to please and honor and glorify God and you will find a sweet spot of contentment.
