Before one of my new sons-in-law played our first golf game, I asked what he shot. He told me he typically shot in the low eighties, but that he had once shot par. He from the moment he shot par, he had a new goal, to shoot or break par every single time. No other score seemed good enough. He always left his golf game a little frustrated and disappointed. One incredible everything-going-just-right, every-putt-drop game, has a tendency to mess you up for all other games. God has placed a craving like this in the heart of all Christians. God placed a piece of heaven in us at the moment of salvation. When God placed the Holy Spirit in our hearts, we tasted for the first time what Heaven is like. The deposit of heaven given to us tasted like a peace, love, acceptance and forgiveness we had never tasted before. And it left us with a nagging knowledge that nothing else is quite as good. But the good news is that we can have a new goal where, when we seek more and more of Jesus, we will be able to get more and more of the taste of heaven while we live on this earth. And we can live with a beautiful hope of knowing that one day we will get to experience the fullness of heaven forever. The closer you get to Jesus the more you will experience the taste of heaven.
