Nothing grows without light. Light is literally life-giving. Light is necessary for life to survive. The first thing God created was light to give life to the rest of creation. If you are a gardener, you know you can prepare the ground, plant the seed, fertilize and water. But without proper sunlight, your garden will not do well. Virginia was convinced last year that we did not get the tomatoes and squash crop we should have because of too little sunlight. Well, it looked to me like it was getting plenty of sunlight and that the failure was probably due to the skill of the gardeners. She insisted it was sunlight and that we needed to remove three small trees nearby. I said no. So once again we did what we have done for 37 years in our marriage – we compromised and I cut down the trees. Turned out she was right. She has canned more tomatoes than we know what to do with and frozen an abundance of squash. Light has life-giving power. Jesus says, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” Remember that a great abundant and beautiful life is not something you can conjure up, make up, create, buy or obtain. Great abundant thriving living is a gift that’s found in Jesus Christ. Just walk in his light and you will find life.
