Welcome to Frazer’s new weekly feature called the Breaking Good News! Here you’ll find how your tithing and service is touching and changing lives everyday through our ministries and programs.
Frazer Reaches Out to Iraq
With the atrocities in Iraq and Syria, as Christians are being persecuted, many of you have asked, “What can we do?” Frazer UMC is reaching out with a donation to organizations with people in the region who can offer aid and assistance. If you would like to make a gift above and beyond your tithe to the church, please designate that donation to the Disaster Relief Fund. Through your gifts, Frazer always stands ready to reach out to those in need.
In Christ’s Way
A woman who lost her husband suddenly and is now struggling financially awaiting spousal benefits, contacted Frazer for help. She was in the Community Ministries office when she received word of how “In Christ’s Way” would be able to help her during this difficult time. We are told she was so overjoyed, she broke into a long, spontaneous prayer of praise to God for his faithfulness to her! Everyone had to grab a tissue for the tears of thankfulness as the woman shared hugs of love and appreciation with the workers and volunteers.
Community Ministries
When you took part in the Sundae Sunday luncheon August 10th (along with more than 400 Frazer members!), you helped support ministries like “Neighbors in Christ.” Frazer UMC supports the work of NIC and just recently received this thank you letter:
“Your donation already is being used to meet the immediate practical, emotional and spiritual needs of victims of crime. Your monies are used to purchase the locks, doors, windows and materials to secure these victims’ homes. The services of this ministry would not be possible without the prayers, donations and support of good neighbors like you. Thank you for allowing us to be fellow-laborers with you in fulfilling the work of the ministry to which Christ has called us to do.”
Small Group Outreach
A small group of ladies who have met together for 10 years is reaching out to pour into the life of a single mom who needs a hand up. This group is sponsoring a young mom who has a 10 month old baby boy and lives at the Friendship Mission. Through their sponsorship they’ve taken in this mom and son like family. They meet for lunch, supply medicine, clothing and food when needed and share the love of Christ. The young lady, who suffered abuse and homelessness in her teens and into her early 20’s, says she is overly blessed to have these “5 moms” in her life. Look for the new Connections magazine out Sunday, August 17th and find your small group today!
Prayer Ministry
One more avenue for prayer! Look for the Prayer Ministry’s new Facebook group called “Frazer UMC Prayer”. This will be used to let our church family know about special prayer needs and also provide prayer devotions and short teachings on prayer. Almost immediately more than 100 people joined the group! Be sure to join today!
CRAVE
A group of youth joined our Crave student ministers for the final prayer breakfast of the summer. This new program brought students together throughout the summer to fellowship, share breakfast and pray. Special prayers this month covered the OneFamily Ministry at Frazer, orphans and the 2014-2015 school year for students and teachers.
Being the Hands & Feet of Christ
A neighbor to Frazer UMC came by the church asking for prayer. When Neil Epler followed up with a phone call, he learned the woman lives right across the street and a huge tree had fallen on the front of her house during a recent thunderstorm. Neil and Butch McPherson grabbed a chain saw and went to work. They cleared the tree and in the process learned this woman’s power and water had been turned off, part of why she had asked for prayer. We plan to follow up and see how Frazer can continue to help her with her utilities and finding a new place to live.
Smile Ministry
The Smile Ministry greeted about 1,400 people to Frazer for the Fortis College graduation. The following Sunday, a husband and wife stopped Butch McPherson in the atrium to say they attended the graduation and could not believe how friendly our church was, so they had to visit to see for themselves! They said they enjoyed their visit and plan to return. Your smiling face makes a difference!
Followership
The Followership Ministry has begun its annual printing of 6,000 plus letters. The goal of Followership is to give every member an opportunity to ask the question, “how will I follow Jesus in 2015?” so these individual mail outs have enormous eternal potential. A great volunteer team helps to get this done in a timely manner, in fact some are already finished. The book-making is about to start with the mail out just around the corner! Start praying about where you will serve today!
This is just some of the Breaking Good News happening in our Frazer Family! Stay tuned for more details of how God is moving through Frazer UMC.
It is so wonderful to hear how Jesus is using Frazer and it’s members in such a powerful way. Thanks for sharing. What a blessing. Ted
