Ken Roach told me about something he saw in Popular Science magazine. Researchers at Georgia Tech have developed a way to use MRI technology to measure what happens to your bottom when you sit on it for a while. In case you think that is not a worthy use of science dollars, the purpose is to engineer better chairs and especially to help avoid ulcers and other problems for people who are confined to wheelchairs. The truth is we were not made to sit for long periods of time. In fact, all of the medical research will tell you is that sitting too much is very dangerous to your health. Spiritually speaking that is true as well. We all need to spend some time at the feet of Jesus to rest, pray and worship. But then, we need to get up off our bottom and get to work worshipping God just as much by doing our jobs, raising our families, and serving our neighbors as we do when we sit in a pew. Jesus gave us the model. He would get away to rest, pray and recoup, but He would always get up and go about doing His Father’s work bearing fruit. So today ask God to give you balance in your life. Spend some time sitting at the feet of Jesus, and then after you have read this devotional, get up and bring honor and glory to His name by going out and bearing fruit by serving others.
