Last week my youngest daughter got engaged. Her boyfriend, whom she has known as her best friend for thirteen years, knelt on the beach, and this was his proposal; “For four thousand seven hundred and forty-five days I have loved you, and I will love you for the rest of my life. Will you marry me?” That was very romantic. As Virginia reminded me shortly afterwards, that was a far cry from my proposal, which went something like this, “Supposing I was to ask you to marry me. Would you say ‘yes’? ” Anyway, Laura did say ‘yes.’ The words of my future son in-law reminded me that God has loved you and me even before we were born. Only He knows the number of days. And yet, while we were still in our mother’s womb, God was lovingly making plans for our lives, lives that included a relationship of being loved by and loving Him. God is fully committed to loving us. He is so committed, that He will go to any length to rescue us, to save us, and to restore us when we lose our way in sin. If you want to know how loved you are by God, then get to know Jesus. He will show you God’s amazing love for you. Let the words of Ephesians 4:18 fill your soul today, “Oh that you will know no matter what, how deep and wide and long and high, is God’s love for you.”
